Robert Wurm, 79, of Modesto, CA, passed into eternity on July 22, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Oct. 17, 1943, to Robert & Martha Wurm, in Portland, OR. Bob served as a U.S. Marine from 1960–1965 & married June Nyquist in 1967; following her passing, he married Denise Metzger in 2010. Bob worked as a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist for 30+ years, along with 20+ years in the Stanislaus Co. Dept. of Mental Health. The majority of his working life was spent helping others in need.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife June; his parents; his brothers, David & Thomas Wurm; & son-in-law, Neil Marshall. He is survived by his wife Denise, of Modesto, CA; his children, Susan Marshall of Turlock, CA, Jennifer & Marc Wray of Peru, IN, Dennis Wurm of Danville, KY, & Jesse Wurm of Juneau, AK; a foster son, James Bryant, of Redding, CA; his brothers Duncan Wurm of Florence, OR, & John Wurm of Roseburg, OR; 10 grandchildren & 18 great-grandchildren.
At a young age, Bob learned to love God’s handiwork in nature, and he hiked many miles during the course of his life. He will be most remembered for his love of the Lord, his love of people, & his dedication to his family. He once wrote, “I am a Christian who has clearly been blessed by my Lord. Through Him I have obtained purpose, meaning, & hope in my life. Without Him I would have surely been dead years ago.” It is out of this life perspective that he was who he was.
A visitation will be Fri., Aug. 4, 2023, from 4:00 – 7:00 pm, at the Old German Baptist Brethren Church, 2866 W. Rumble Rd., in Modesto. His funeral will be Sat., Aug. 5, 2023, at 9:00 am, at the same place.
The family is grateful for the care given him by family, friends, & medical professionals during his final 5 months. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Brethren Heritage School, 3549 N.
