Cal State Stanislaus guard Andreanna Marshall was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association's women's basketball Player of the Week after leading the Warriors to a pair of key wins last weekend, including an upset over the West Region’s top team — Cal Poly Pomona.
The senior from Panorama City averaged 28 on 21-for-31 shooting (48.8 percent), 3 rebounds and 2 assists and 1 assist a game during the recent stretch.
In a 90-82 victory over Cal State San Bernardino, Marshall scored a game-high 31 points and collected four rebounds. She connected on 11 of 23 shots (47.8 percent) from the field and was 9-for-9 from the free throw line.
She followed that effort with 25 points — on 10 of 20 shooting — two rebounds, three assists and two steals during an 83-80 victory over Cal Poly Pomona.
Stanislaus closes out regular-season play with road games at San Francisco State and Cal State Monterey Bay on Thursday and Friday, respectively. The Warriors have already clinched a berth in the conference’s postseason tournament set for March 1.
Stanislaus men trying to hold onto final spot
Despite losses to Cal State San Bernardino and defending national Cal Poly Pomona, the Stanislaus men’s basketball team has the eighth and final seed in the CCAA’s postseason tournament.
The Warriors (8-12 CCAA) have two games left to secure the position, as they will play at San Francisco State on Thursday night and at Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday night. They are a game ahead of Monterey Bay and Sonoma State, with both teams owning 7-13 conference records.
Stanislaus runners make All-American list
The Stanislaus women's cross country team was named as one of the USTFCCCA All-Academic teams for 2010, it was announced last week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The Lakers of Grand Valley State are the USTFCCCA NCAA Division II Women's Scholar Team of the Year after winning the Division II cross country championship.
The Warriors, with a team GPA of 3.04, are among 107 Division II programs on the elite list. Stanislaus is one of five CCAA teams making the grade, with other being Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State San Bernardino, San Francisco State and UC San Diego.
