Hilmar High cross country runner Sidney Logsdon turned in a pair of personal bests last week, competing in the Hughson Supercross and Hilmar Flat Land meets.
Logsdon’s time in the Flat Land, a 5,000-meter event, was 19 minutes, 53 seconds, good enough for first place and nearly two and a half minutes better than her nearest competitor.
In the Supercross, a 4,000-meter event, Logsdon was clocked in 16:21:18, good for third place behind Elk Grove’s Gianna Mansouri (15:50.07) and Pleasant Grove’s Kylie Jonson (16:17.20).
Logsdon seems to be hitting her stride just in time for the Sac-Joaquin Sub-Section meet Nov. 4 at the hilly “Frogtown” course at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds in Angels Camp.
“I’m pretty happy with the times,” said Logsdon. “We’ve been doing a lot of speed work. My goal is to drop my times more. Hopefully, it gets better.”
Logsdon believes she can use the Frogtown course to her advantage.
“I feel like it’s harder for other people to run the hills,” said the 5-foot-4 Trans-Valley League champion. “Not that I like them, but I feel like I can use them. The hills suit my running style.”
Logsdon is hopeful she can qualify her for the section meet Nov. 11 at Willow Hill in Folsom and the state meet Nov. 25 at Fresno’s Woodward Park.
“I think I can,” she said. “If I put in enough hard work and keep doing what I’ve been doing, I think I can.
