The Turlock Golf and Country Club hosted 107 girls golfers from 20 schools across the section on Monday for the annual Hilmar Tournament, with a number of local student-athletes swinging top 10 finishes.
The hosting Yellowjackets finished in second place in the team scoring, with Oakdale posting a 331 to win by 39 strokes. Pitman, fielding enough golfers to field two groups on Monday, had its “Green” squad place fourth with a combined score of 398. Turlock finished tied sixth with fellow CCAL program Gregori at 405.
Hughson also fielded two teams, with the “Black” grouping tying with Linden for ninth place, each with 415 strokes. Meanwhile, Pitman’s “Silver” squad posted a 468 for 15th place and Hughson’s “Gold” team pacing 17th with a 476.
Oakdale’s Isabella Cortes and Brynlee McBride finished 1-2 on the individual leaderboard, with Cortes shooting an even-par 72 and McBride a 78.
A three-way tie for third followed between Hilmar freshman Isabella Northcutt, Escalon’s Elizabeth Allan and Ripon’s Cameron Seefeldt, who each shot an 86.
Northcutt had par on six holes, with the highlight of her morning being a birdie on the 334-yard sixth hole. The back nine were unfriendly, though, as she finished bogeying her final five holes.
Hughson senior Madden Nobles and Gregori’s Angelie Bahadur tied for seventh with 87s.
Nobles had a similar round to Northcutt, as she saved par four times while securing a birdie on hole No. 8, measuring 306 yards. The first five holes of the back nine proved difficult, as she settled for bogeys.
Hilmar senior Valerie Quaid finished ninth with an 89, while Turlock sophomore Brianna Cuenca tied with Oakdale’s McKinnley Antrim for 10th place with matching rounds of 91.
Like Nobles, Quaid birdied at the eight, and had seven pars, though seven double-bogies were too much to overcome.
Cuenca was able to par three times on the morning, including at 14 to finish off her round. She earned a birdie on the 217-yard, par-4 ninth hole to recover from four bogies and a pair of double-bogies to begin the front nine.
Contributing alongside Northcutt and Quaid in Hilmar’s runner-up effort was freshman Alicia Antrim’s 93 (13), sophomore Grace Vitorino’s 102 (T-26) and sophomore Gracelyn Gonsalves’ 128 (T-95).
Pitman’s top “Green” group was paced by junior Clarissa Vallejo’s round of 95 (T-14), followed by sophomore Paige Jajko’s 97 (19), sophomore Layla Alvarez’s 101 (25), senior Kilynn Vasquez’s 105 (T-37) and senior Lexi Jeans’ 108 (T-47).
Following Cuenca, the top score for Turlock was claimed by senior Frankie Ronveaux with a round of 98, good for a tie for 20th place. Behind her was senior Serene Klair with a 105 (T-37), sophomore Annalillia Scroggins’ 111 (T-51) and junior Ava Arakelian’s 126 (T-90).
Sophomore Mia Mateo was second to Nobles for Hughson’s top scoring “Black” roster with a score of 104 to tie for 31st position. Junior Ava O’Hara was close behind with a 2-08 to tie for 47th, while junior Kali Irizarry’s 116 (T-61) and junior Kelsey Brower’s 128 (T-95) rounded out the group.
In Pitman’s “Silver” grouping, sophomore Mariah Aleixo was six strokes off of breaking 100, finishing tied for 37th. Junior Amaya Singh wasn’t too far off with her 44th-place score of 107. Freshman Emmie Dominguez (125) tied for 87th while junior Brianna Currie-Bennett posted a 131 to finish one shot off of breaking into the top 100. Freshman Hadley Newton (138) was 104th with a round of 138.
Sophomore Sadie Petersen (115) and junior Sophia Spears (116) paced Hughson’s “Gold” team, placing tied for 59th and tied for 61st, respectively. Junior Katelynn Loveland shot a 120 to tie for 75th while junior Victoria Cribbet and senior Channing Coonce tied for 87th position with matching rounds of 125.
The Hughson team took on Orestimba on Tuesday at the St. Stanislaus Golf Course, while the Turlock and Pitman programs returned to TGCC on Tuesday for a regular season matchup. Hilmar will also be back at the venue Thursday for a meeting with Orestimba.
