The Turlock High varsity baseball team lost in league for the first time this season and snapped a four-game winning streak on Monday afternoon after falling to El Capitan on the road in a tight 5-4 final.
“Not a good day for us,” said Turlock head coach Mark de la Motte. “Still early; we have three more games this week.”
EC scored three runs in the bottom of the third, then Turlock went up 4-3 after scoring all four runs in the top of the fourth.
The Gauchos scored two in the bottom of the fifth and fended off the Bulldogs.
Justin Hines, Cole Carrigg, Alden Norquist and Case Pacheco were each 1-for-3 while Mason King was 1-for-4.
Hines, Carrigg, Pacheco and Tyler Soderstrom each scored a run while Carrigg had two RBI and Pacheco had an RBI.
Justin Hill pitched five innings and allowed five hits, three earned runs, three walks and struck out two while Garret Fountain tossed one scoreless inning and struck out one.
Turlock’s offense was held to just five hits for the game and had three errors.
EC had five hits and committed four errors.
Turlock’s overall record is now 14-3 and 3-1 in the CCC.
The next game for Turlock will be at home against El Capitan at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
