FOLSOM – Three Turlock area track and field athletes and one from Hughson shined on the east side of Sacramento County on Saturday.
Prairie City Stadium on the Folsom High campus was the site of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Track and Field Championship. The top four athletes in each event advance to the California Interscholastic Federation State Track and Field Championships, which will be held at Veterans Memorial Stadium on the Buchanan High campus in Clovis this Friday and Saturday.
Turlock’s Emma Trevor and Brooke Schumacher lead a group of locals advancing to state by placing in the women’s varsity pole vault. Trevor, who is only a sophomore, took third place by clearing the bar at 11 feet, 3 inches. Schumacher, a senior, was tied for third at the same height.

Pitman’s Avery Carlson punched her ticket to the state meet in the women’s varsity 3200 meter race. The Pride junior took third place with a time of 10 minutes, 41.36 seconds. Patterson’s Natalie Arriaza won, clocked at 10:37.83.
Hughson’s Malakai Sumter leaped to a fourth-place finish in the men’s varsity long jump, clearing the dust at 22 feet, 2.75 inches.
Also qualifying to state representing the Pride in unified events was Lindsey Sherman in the 100-meter and shot put contests, putting in results of 16.51 seconds and 9 feet, 10.25 inches, respectively. Joining her in Clovis will be unified teammates Montana Rodin and Elexi Pulido. Rodin put in a distance of 9 feet, 10.25 inches in the shot put Pulido completed the 100-meter race in 15.46 seconds.
On the boys' unified side, brothers Jayden Duncan and Tyre Duncan also qualified in the shot, put, With Tyre throwing a distance of 32 feet, 6 inches and Jayden putting in a length og 29 feet, 1.25 inches.
There were other Turlock-area athletes who missed the mark of competing at the state meet.

The varsity men’s pole vault had Turlock’s Justin Strode take fifth place, clearing the bar at 15 feet, 2 inches. Ryan Auble of Del Campo of Fair Oaks won the event at 16-07.00.
Turlock’s Cash Burton had a sixth-place finish in the men’s varsity long jump at 22 feet, 2.25 inches.
Hilmar’s Lilly Brewer, a senior, and freshman Milana Lacey finished in 6th and 7th place respectively in the women’s varsity 300-meter hurdles. Brewer had a time of 46.15 seconds and Lacey at 46.41.
