After a strong spring training and a handful of days with the Sacramento River Cats, the San Francisco Giants have called up 2015 Turlock High graduate Nick Avila to the big league roster, the organization announced Monday afternoon.

Avila, 26, will be available out of the bullpen for the San Francisco's three-game series with the Los Angeles Dodgers, which kicks off today at 7:10 p.m. at Dodger Stadium.

If Avila were to enter a game, he would become the eighth alumnus of Turlock High to play in the major leagues and the first since Tyler Soderstrom, who appeared in 45 games for the Oakland Athletics last season.

The right-handed Avila was selected in the 26th round of the 2019 MLB Draft by the Giants. He was a non-roster invitee to big league camp, where he had a 4.35 ERA in 10 ⅓ innings over six games. He also gave up 10 hits (three home runs) and a walk while punching out 14 before being reassigned on March 21.

In one game with Sacramento this past weekend, Avila tossed a perfect inning with two strikeouts.

Sources confirmed to the Turlock Journal that day that Giants manager Bob Melvin and President of Baseball Operations Farhan Zaidi had been impressed by the Modesto native in the days leading up to the reassignment.
