The only team to beat Turlock High at the 2014 Merced High Invitational on Monday was Turlock High, as the Bulldogs finished both first and second in the overall team standings.

“I have 10 or 11 solid golfers so I said what the heck,” Turlock head coach Mary Krupka said of her decision to field two teams at the tournament. “It gave me a little sense of relief. It makes me feel like I have a pretty solid team.”

Turlock's “A squad” comprised of Sarah Garcia, Bergen Benedict, Michaela de Bos, Brooke Vierra, and Preethi Singh placed first overall with 462 strokes while the “B squad” of Deborah Oliveira, Lynden Sutton, Allie Malmberg, Elena Machado, and Kila Coffey finished second overall with 545 strokes.

Merced and Ceres High tied for third place with 547 strokes and Pitman High finished fourth with 563 strokes.

“I knew they would do well, but I did not think they would take second,” Krupka said of her second team.

Turlock's best performance came by way of de Bos who walked away from the course with 86 strokes, but the day's best overall performance belonged to Taylor Beckwith of Pitman with 79 strokes.

The Bulldogs followed Monday's tournament sweep with matches on Tuesday and Thursday against Buhach Colony High and Atwater High, respectively. Turlock beat the Thunder 237 strokes to 287 strokes before taking down the Falcons 216 strokes to 295 strokes.

Turlock will continue it's Central California Conference campaign on Tuesday against Golden Valley High.
