Former Delhi High varsity boys basketball coach Eugene Drummond is now in the town of Turlock and he has his eyes set on assisting the next generation of ballers by providing them with a unique experience. With the help of Brenda Athletics Club, Drummond was able to bring a youth camp to the community.

The Basketball Academy Youth Development Program starts this weekend. April is a free trial month, which includes lessons in fundamentals of dribbling, shooting, footwork and more.

“I just want it to be as supporting to them as the Brenda's family has been to me,” said Drummond of the camp. “I never expected to coach again, but I'm excited to teach some fundamentals and grow some passion for a game that has taught me so many lessons and made my life so full.”

He described the youth camp as a team-oriented experience that will be both fun and competitive.

“I really enjoyed Delhi because of how close knit it was and how it was really about the kids and the basketball,” said Drummond. “Just do the best you can to provide the kids the best experience possible and the most support we can give them to achieve.”

The first camp will take place noon to 1:30 p.m. today for ages 7-10 and 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. for ages 11-14.

The next date will be April 21, with the 7-10 age group starting at 5 p.m. and concluding at 6:30. The 11-14 age group will run from 6:30 p.m. to 8. And finally, the third camp runs on April 29 with the 7-10 age group beginning at noon and concluding at 1:30. The 11-14 age group will start at 1:30 and conclude at 3 p.m.
