The Turlock High School is diving head first into office life, complete with all the politics and backstabbing in their upcoming performance of “9 to 5 The Musical.”

“9 to 5 The Musical” is based on the 1980 movie starring Dolly Parton, Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, and Dabney Coleman. The musical, with music and lyrics by Parton, premiered on Broadway in 2009 and received four Tony nominations.

The musical follows Violet, Doralee, and Judy as they deal with their lecherous boss, Franklin Hart Jr. during their 9 to 5 workday. The women find themselves in new roles of power when they hold their boss captive.

“Many of the students hadn’t heard of “9-5” the movie, but really got into it once they were able to see its relevance to women in the work force back then,” said Director Michele VanNieuwenhuyzen.

The show features a cast of 25, along with a tech crew of 15, VanNieuwenhuyzen said.

Shows are set for 7 p.m. tonight and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday in the Performing Arts building at THS. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the box office prior to the show.
