Argument turns deadly in Turlock

The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department has arrested a 39-year-old Turlock man on allegations he fatally shot another man during a heated argument.

The victim has been identified by the sheriff's department as Adam Wagner, 24, of Turlock.

The suspect was identified as Jaymar Brown, 39, of Turlock.

The shooting happened around 4:30 p.m. Saturday in the 200 block of H Street. The incident was reported by a resident, who stated multiple shots had been fired.

The first law enforcement to arrive at the scene found Wagner on the ground with a mortal gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sheriff's department spokesman Sgt. Anthony Bejaran said the two men had been involved in an argument just prior to the shooting. It's unknown what the argument was regarding.

California’s Megan’s Law website shows Brown being a registered sex offender. He was convicted in 1996 of rape and released in 2008. His address listed was in the 200 block of H Street in Turlock.

Brown was taken into custody at the scene and booked into Stanislaus County Jail on suspicion of homicide and being a felon in possession of a weapon. He is currently being held without bail and has an arraignment set for Oct. 11 in Stanislaus County Superior Court.
