All Turlock Fire units responded to a vegetation fire off northbound Highway 99 near Tuolumne Road Thursday afternoon that burned a total of 17 acres.

Fire crews were called out to the brush fire around 3:32 p.m. Thursday. First arriving units found approximately 10 acres of grass known as light, flashy fuels burning at a moderate rate of spread.

The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes. A total of 17 acres were burned and crews were on scene for three hours conducting extinguishment and mop up. There were no injuries.

Through Turlock Fire’s resource sharing partners, two engines responded as well as units from Turlock Rural, Keyes, and Denair Fire departments. There was a total of four engines, three brush engines, one grass unit, and two Chiefs at the scene.

The Stanislaus County Fire Investigative Unit was dispatched to handle the fire investigation. The fire was found to be arson and with the assistance of TPD, investigators were able to arrest a suspect.
