Assault turns deadly on Turlock street

The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the death of a Turlock man who died from a violent assault early Tuesday morning.

The deceased was identified by the sheriff’s department as Gregory Mendoza, 29, of Turlock.

Mendoza’s death has been ruled a homicide.

Mendoza was found by a relative around 4 a.m. Tuesday. He and another man were on the ground at the end of a driveway in the 100 block of West F Street.

Turlock Police officers and sheriff’s deputies both arrived at the scene, along with emergency medical service personnel. They attempted to revive the unconscious Mendoza, but they were un successful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second man, a 25-year-old, was transported to the hospital, and has since been treated and released, according to the sheriff’s department.

There were no details available about the assault.

The investigation is currently on going and detectives are looking for potential witnesses to the assault. There is no suspect information at this time.

Mendoza was a graduate of Turlock High School and leaves behind a young daughter, his mother and a sister, and other family members.
