A young boy is in serious but stable condition at a regional hospital after he was accidentally shot by his sibling.
The boy and his sister were playing cops and robbers with a gun they thought was unloaded when the boy was accidentally shot, said Turlock Police spokesman Sgt. Mike Parmley.
The shooting happened around 1:48 p.m. Friday at a home in the 4100 block of Summerfield Drive.
The boy was taken to a landing zone in Turlock and Medi-flighted to a regional hospital with a life-threatening injury.
The Turlock Police Department is investigating the matter and considering a charge of illegal storage of a firearm for the homeowner. Parmley could not specify how the children got a hold of the gun, but did say it was not kept in a secure manner.
The ages of the children was not immediately known, though it’s believed they are both under the age of 14.
The investigation is ongoing.
