Child killed in scooter, vehicle collision identified
emergency

The child killed when the scooter he was riding collided with a vehicle was from the Southern California area and was visiting Turlock.

The deceased was identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office as David Herrera, 8, of Long Beach.

The collision happened just before 7:30 p.m. June 26 at the intersection of W. Christoffersen Parkway and Panorama Avenue.

Herrera was on his foot-powered scooter and crossing Christoffersen when he was hit by a Toyota sedan that was headed west on Christoffersen.

Turlock police officers, firefighters and emergency medical technicians all arrived at the scene within minutes and began rendering aid to the child and securing the scene, said Turlock Police spokesman Sgt. Russ Holeman.

The child was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and died.

An 18-year-old woman was driving the Toyota and remained at the scene. The police department said the woman was not impaired and that speed was not a factor in the collision.
