Fleeing driver caught by Turlock police
TPD

The third time was not the charm for a Turlock man, who attempted to flee from Turlock Police officers after evading arrest two other times.

The first incident began at 9:33 p.m. Thursday when an officer spotted a gray Lexus SC350, with no license plates, driving at a high rate of speed.

The officer attempted to make a traffic stop in the area of Fulkerth and Soderquist roads, but the driver sped away.

A pursuit was initiated, but quickly called off because the driver of the Lexus was making multiple moving vehicle violations and it was deemed too dangerous to continue. The pursuit was called off in the area of Spruce Street.

A short while later the vehicle was spotted again and again an officer attempted to make a traffic stop.

“The driver fled again and the pursuit was canceled again, due to safety concerns,” said Turlock Police spokesman Sgt. Michael Parmley.

At 11:46 p.m.  the same vehicle was spotted by officers, spinning its tires in the parking lot of Walgreen’s on Geer Road.

Officers attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle a third time and were successful due to heavy traffic in the area, Parmley said.

The driver was identified as Matiullah Amani, 23, of Turlock.  Amani was arrested and booked for reckless driving and two counts of evading.  His vehicle was towed from the scene.
