The Merced County Sheriff’s Department has released video footage of a vehicle believed to have been used in a fatal drive-by shooting in Delhi earlier this year.

Erian Sandoval, 20, of Livingston was shot on the night of April 26 outside a Delhi gas station and later died at a Modesto hospital from his wounds.

Sandoval and two friends had stopped at the Delhi Five Star Travel Plaza in the 15000 block of August Avenue around 9:30 p.m.

A dark-colored, four-door vehicle pulled into the gas station and a group of males confronted Sandoval and his friends. The sheriff’s department said the two groups had “an exchange” of words.

The men got back into their vehicle and left the area.

Sandoval and his friends were leaving the gas station when a vehicle pulled up and the occupants started shooting, said sheriff spokesman Deputy Delray Shelton.

Sandoval was the only one wounded in the incident.

Investigators suspect the shooters may have mistakenly thought Sandoval was with a gang, though detectives have found no evidence he was associated with any gang.

The sheriff’s department asked anyone with information about the homicide or the vehicle to call 385-7445. All reporting parties and information will remain anonymous.
