The custodian wanted for robbing the bank he was hired to clean has been arrested after he surrendered to the Turlock Police Department early Thursday morning.

The suspect, Clinton Russell Holmes, 35, of Atwater turned himself in at the Turlock Police Department around 3 a.m. Thursday after his photo and other information was widely circulated in the media and on social media.

Holmes was charged with bank robbery for the theft at the Tri Counties Bank on Tuesday morning. The bank is located inside the Raley’s grocery store at 2900 Geer Road.

Holmes entered the bank around 9 a.m. and asked a teller to move toward the back of the business. In the back Holmes told the teller he was robbing the bank and to hand over the money. No weapon was seen during the exchange, but Holmes did insinuate he had one, said Turlock Police spokesperson Officer Steve Rodrigues.

Holmes was identified as the suspected robber because he was known to the bank employees. He had been hired by a janitorial service that is responsible for cleaning the bank. Holmes did not wear a mask during the robbery and his photo was widely published and shared on social media. Information about the vehicle he was driving also was circulated.

Rodrigues said some of the stolen money had been recovered, but did not specify an amount.
