The homicide suspect last seen on the lam in the Turlock region was apprehended Tuesday afternoon in San Joaquin County.

Alejandro Ruvacalba, 32, was wanted for the murder of Anthony Quismondo, 42, who was shot July 3 on Waterloo Road in Stockton. According to the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, Quismondo was in the area selling shoes and was shot by Ruvacalba during a robbery.

Ruvacalba crashed his vehicle around 6 a.m. July 4 in the 8200 block of Keyes Road. Witnesses tried approaching the scene to assist, but were confronted by Ruvacalba, who shouted that he had a gun before running from the scene.

Law enforcement established a perimeter in the area and began searching for Ruvacalba. Other witnesses reported seeing him and one trucker told deputies he tried to get a ride from him. The sheriff’s department utilized their air support and K9 units, but Ruvacalba was not located.

On Tuesday afternoon, Ruvacabla was tracked to a La Quinta hotel in Stockton.

There was a brief standoff with law enforcement at the hotel, during which Ruvacabla let one woman from his room out. The standoff ended with Ruvacabla’s surrender. There were no injuries reported from the incident.

Ruvacabla was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on charges of homicide and robbery.

“We’ve never stopped looking for him. We’ve never stopped,” Deputy Andrea Lopez said on the sheriff’s department’s Facebook live post. “And, we are grateful that it ended safely, and that he’s in custody.”
