A 32-year-old man was shot outside his friend’s Turlock residence Tuesday night when the two were surprised by two unknown gunmen at the home.

The victim sustained one gunshot wound that caused non-life threatening injuries to his abdomen and leg, said Turlock Police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis.

The shooting was reported around 10 p.m. Tuesday in the 800 block of Angelus Street.

The victim and his friend were walking toward the front door of the home when they noticed it was ajar.

The friend entered the house while the 32-year-old stayed outside. Just as he entered the home, he was confronted by a man armed with a handgun, Lewis said.

There was a second suspect inside the house. He ran out of the house and jumped over a fence and landed near the 32-year-old. The second suspect and the 32-year-old were struggling with one another when several gunshots rang out.

The first suspect fired multiple shots, striking the 32-year-old once.

Both suspects fled the area. Neither of the suspects is believed to have resided at the Angelus residence.

No items were reported stolen from the home.

One witness said a tan sports utility vehicle was seen leaving the area.

One suspect was described as a white man in his early 20s. He stands about 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs around 150 pounds. He was wearing a hooded Raiders sweatshirt and dark pants.

A short time after the shooting officers spotted a vehicle on W. Main Street that matched the description of the one seen leaving the area. The driver, Jose Peralta, 24, was in possession of a firearm, however investigators no longer believe he was involved in the shooting. Peralta was charged with a weapon offense.

While officers were speaking with Peralta, a woman, identified as Sierra Rutledge, 19, began interfering with the investigation, according to the police report. Rutledge was found to have an active warrant for vandalism and was arrested and cited out at the scene.
