Repeat offender found guilty of domestic violence

A Turlock man is facing significant time in prison after being found guilty of domestic violence charges, the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Gregory Taylor, 60, of Turlock, was convicted by jury of terrorist threats and domestic violence. Taylor was also convicted of the allegations that he had previously been convicted of two serious and violent felonies that qualify him as a 3-Striker under the California 3-Strikes Law. Taylor, who has a significant history of domestic violence, is facing 25-years to life in prison.

This crime occurred on July 12, 2024 in Turlock. On that date, Taylor choked his girlfriend and threatened to kill her during an argument. During the assault, the victim was able to break free from Taylor and call 911. Officers from the Turlock Police Department immediately responded and apprehended Taylor following an investigation.

Taylor will be sentenced on June 27. Deputy District Attorney Vita Palazuelos prosecuted this case on behalf of the People.

At the time of this crime, the victim was homeless. Homeless women are more likely to be victims of domestic violence.

“Domestic violence isn’t just one of the causes of homelessness — it’s the leading cause,” states the Connections for Abused Women and their Children website. “Approximately one in four homeless women finds herself without shelter primarily because of partner abuse, and as of 2024, women were still the demographic experiencing intimate partner abuse at the highest rates.

“It’s worth noting that gender inequality — itself a major driver of domestic violence — also contributes heavily to homelessness rates in women who don’t experience partner abuse,” states CAWC. “Overall, women are still more likely to experience financial insecurity than men because of persistent wage gaps, discrimination with regard to promotions and pregnancy leave, single motherhood, and the higher cost of many women’s goods and services, from haircuts to toiletries and clothing.”
