A possible gang fight near the Delhi Fire Department and shots being fired at a house and car on Wednesday could be related, reported the Merced County Sheriff’s Department.
Just after 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the Merced County Sheriff’s Office was called to a possible gang fight near the Delhi Fire Department on Acacia Street. Deputy Ralph Zyskowski was in the area and saw a car driving erratically. It was weaving and running stop signs, he reported.
When Deputy Zyskowski pulled the car over, in the area of Schendel Avenue and Stephens Street, he discovered that the 16-year-old male Hispanic front passenger had been shot. The bullet had struck the rear passenger door traveled through the seat stopping in the victim’s left portion of his back.
The victim was air lifted to a Modesto hospital where he was listed in stable condition. The victim and passengers of the vehicle are validated gang members, according to the sheriff’s department, and investigators believe it to be a gang-related shooting. The victim and passengers were uncooperative with deputies, reported the sheriff’s department.
On the same night, just after 11 p.m., a house in the 16,000 block of Davis Street in Delhi was shot at several times with both a vehicle and the home being struck. No one was hurt during the shooting and suspect descriptions match those of the shooting victims from earlier in the night. It is unknown how many people were inside the residence at the time of shooting, said the sheriff’s department.
