Shotgun found on pursuit route

An attempt to catch a fleeing driver didn’t end with an arrest, but it did lead to the recovery of a shotgun that had been discarded during the pursuit.

The pursuit began shortly before 9 p.m. on Friday when an officer attempted to make a traffic stop on a silver Impala in the area of Orange and South avenues. The driver refused to stop and a pursuit ensued.

“During the pursuit, the driver drove down an alley, slowed down momentarily, then continued to flee in the vehicle at a high rate of speed,” said Turlock Police spokesman Sgt. Michael Parmley.

The pursuit continued to the 800 block of Park Street, where the driver abandoned the Impala and took off running.

A perimeter was set up around the area and multiple efforts were made to locate the driver, but all were unsuccessful. The police department has identified the driver and they are seeking an arrest. The name of the suspect was not released.

During a search of the route the driver took, a short-barrel shotgun was located and recovered.
