Someone drove a vehicle into the front of Turlock church and then promptly took off, leaving the police department to wonder if it was an accident or an intentional act.

The Holy Ground Ministry at 305 W. Canal Dr. sustained significant damage to the front of the building from the encounter. The front door was ripped from the frame and the wood and brick frame work at the base of the building were crushed and crumbled.

Tire skid marks were present at the scene, but it’s unknown if they were made before the impact or during the departure.

The incident happened around 11:30 a.m. Thursday. There was no one in the church at the time.

Witness accounts varied at the scene. One individual said the vehicle was a gold car, possibly a Honda or Toyota, while another individual remembers seeing a grey pick-up.

The church is part of a storefront that is also home to a liquor store.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact the Turlock Police Department at 668-5550.
