A Turlock woman is standing accused of stealing a sports utility vehicle from an auto dealership then crashing it shortly afterwards.

Victoria Craig, 19, is facing charges of possession of stolen property, misdemeanor pursuit, burglary and auto theft.

The incident began sometime before 1 p.m. Saturday when a caller to the Turlock Police Department reported seeing a woman break into the office of Platinum Auto Sales in the 200 block of S. Golden State Boulevard.

The caller said the woman was in the office for a short time before coming out and leaving in a purple SUV, said police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis.

A short while later the vehicle was spotted by an officer, who tried to pull Craig over. Instead Craig sped off, but her attempt to flee was short-lived because she ran up on a curb and damaged the vehicle, leaving her stranded.

She was taken into custody without further incident.
