Two women suspected of numerous robberies in Merced were arrested on multiple felony charges after they were caught in a vehicle stolen out of Turlock.
Mayra Viveros, 23, of Turlock and Kandice Rae Hoffman, 19, of Modesto were both charged with auto theft, receiving stolen property and robbery, according to the California Highway Patrol, one of the arresting agencies.
The incident began around 2:45 p.m. Monday at the La Aurora Market and Liquor at 1125 Boulder Ave., in Modesto. Agents with the Stanislaus County Auto Theft Task Force were in the area and spotted a silver Dodge Ram Quad cab pickup truck with paper plates, but no temporary operating permit attached.
The agents ran the truck through a search and it came back as a vehicle recently stolen out of Turlock.
Stancatt agents and CHP officers conducted an enforcement stop on the vehicle and took the two women into custody.
The two women had several credit cards, an identification card for another woman, and a shaved key in their possession, the CHP reported. Inside the truck, officers found a BB pistol with the orange safety tip removed.
A subsequent investigation into Viveros and Hoffman revealed them to be suspects in a string of robberies that are under investigation by the Merced Police Department.
