Denair High School Academic Decathlon students earned first place among small schools and third place overall at the Stanislaus County Academic Decathlon, held last weekend at Gregori High School in Modesto. The students also took home a school record 28 medals. Advisor Paul Michaelis said the team practiced about seven hours a week since the school year began.

The Academic Decathlon is hailed as the biggest academic event of the year. It is a two-day series of tests, speeches and interviews featuring this year’s theme of “The Age of Empire.”
