Turlock Junior High School seventh grader Allison Behrens finished sixth overall out of 44 participants at the Stanislaus County Office of Education Junior High Spelling Championship held last Thursday in Modesto. Behrens was a gold medal winner and TJHS eighth grader Colby McCann took home a silver medal. Some of the words spelled from the spelling bee were neurasthenia, panacea and osmosis.

Stanislaus State’s Academic Senate voted in favor of a bill that would require students enrolled in all 23 California State University campuses to take one 3-credit unit of any qualifying Ethnic Studies course before they graduate (Journal file photo).
