Stanislaus State recently announced changes to their COVID-19 protocols. These changes come as localities and state governments are loosening restrictions as infection and hospitalization rates have stabilized after the Omicron surge at the beginning of the year.

Stanislaus State will no longer require face coverings outdoors and the physical distancing will no longer be required outdoors as well. Face coverings are continued to need to be worn while indoors, and are available at the COVID-19 supply store on campus.

“The decision was based on recommendations from the campus Infectious Disease Response Team, input from the COVID-19 Campus Consultation Team and our campus and county community transmission levels,” said Senior Associate Vice President for Communications, Marketing and Media Relations Rosalee Rush. “Stan State has maintained a low incidence of COVID-19 cases.”

According to the university’s COVID-19 dashboard, there were 25 cases of the virus at the last update, this was a decrease from 32 cases two weeks prior. Out of the 8,302 enrolled students, 82.3 percent have received their vaccination. Out of the 1,279 employees, 85.3 percent have received the vaccine. As of March 7, Stanislaus County has reported 158 new cases, which is much lower compared to the high of 3,633 on Jan. 24.

The university asks the campus community to please continue to be mindful and practice good safety protocols:

·         Complete the Daily Self-Screening form before coming to campus;

·         Wash your hands frequently, cover coughs and sneezes;

·         Practice physical distancing;

·         Continue to wear face coverings indoors when in a high COVID-19 transmission community area; and

·         If sick or experiencing any COVID symptoms, stay home and get tested.

“Although we will continue to require face coverings be worn indoors, it does not mean that this necessity won’t change in the future,” Stan State said in an email to students, faculty and staff. “We will continue to monitor our campus and surrounding community transmission levels and provide updates.”
