Brewing up a dust cloud

Dust Bowl partners Brett Honor and Brett Tate were kept busy Tuesday night at their downtown tap room's grand opening.

Turlock’s award-winning Dust Bowl Brewing Company tapped the kegs and officially opened the doors to its downtown tap room Tuesday evening.

Turlockers lined up out the door in hopes of tasting one of Dust Bowl’s 11 house brews on tap, ranging from buckwheat ale to dopplebock and the brewery’s renowned Hops of Wrath India Pale Ale. Five beer samplers, 64-ounce “growlers” to go, and even fine wines were poured late into the night by Dust Bowl partners Brett Honoré and Brett Tate.

The opening marks the next step for the brewery, founded in 2009 by Tate and brewmaster Don Oliver of Hilmar, winner of the 2006 Samuel Adams Longshot Homebrew Competition and the 2008 John S. Ford Award, given to the world’s highest scorer on the Diploma in Brewing Exams.

The Dust Bowl Tap Room, located at 200 West Main St., is open 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 12 midnight Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays.
