The Turlock Library will host a variety of events in the month of June aimed at encouraging literacy and expanding knowledge for all ages.
The library will host a Bubble Party at 4 p.m. on Tuesday. Kids and teens are invited to join in the fun outside the library to play and experiment with soap bubbles and different types of wands. Children under 4 must have direct supervision from parents or adult guardians.
Those who love Pokémon are invited to come and meet others who share their passion from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday. Participants can hang out and trade or battle on their Nintendo Switch or bring their trading cards for a friendly game, hunt for shinies in Pokémon GO, and more. All ages welcome; children 4 and under must have direct adult supervision.
The Friends of the Turlock Library group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. All are invited.
Independent readers up to age 12 are invited to practice their reading skills with the special Read to a Dog program at 12 p.m. June 6at the Turlock Library. This program is designed to help children gain confidence in their reading skills by reading aloud to certified therapy dogs. Register the readers online to participate. Space is limited.
The Mystery Lovers Book Club will meet at 10:30 a.m. June 8. This month’s book is “The Cater Street Hangman” by Anne Perry. While the Ellison girls are paying social calls, one of their housemaids becomes the third in a series of young women murdered in a genteel Victorian London neighborhood. As the investigation proceeds, uppercrust facades begin to crumble, and Pitt relies on help from the unconventional Charlotte Ellison. Although drawn to her, the Inspector knows that a romance between a lady and a policeman is unthinkable.
The Stanislaus County Farm Bureau will host special Read, Grow, Explore sessions at the library at 2 p.m. June 8 and 4 p.m. June 16. The farm bureau will introduce youth to agriculture through engaging children’s books and hands-on activities that spark curiosity, inspire learning, and help participants connect with our vibrant agricultural community.
A T(w)een Tuesday event will be held at 4 p.m. June 9. Participants can build LEGO creations using the library’s LEGO blocks and bring them to life with stop-motion film. What stories will your creations tell? This program is designed for ages 9 and older.
Younger children will have the opportunity to build LEGO creations using the library’s LEGO and Duplo blocks at 4 p.m. June 9. This program helps young ones develop critical thinking skills and teaches basic engineering concepts. This program is aimed at children 8 and younger, but all ages are welcome. Children under 4 must have direct supervision from parents or adult guardians.
The library is hosting a coffee and crafts paint by number event at 10 a.m. June 13. There are a limited number of projects available. Registration is required. Please register each person individually. For ages 18 and up.
The library will host a Board Game Day from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. June 13. Join the Central Valley Game Lovers for a day of board gaming. Try a new game or bring your own. Most games are recommended for ages 10 and up, but there will be games for younger players, too.
The Turlock Chess Club will meet from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. June 17. Whether you are an amateur, a master, or somewhere between, you are invited to bring your board to meet and play against others for practice or friendly competition.
A T(w)een Tuesday event will be held at 4 p.m. June 23. Participants will learn how to create colorful pillowcases using tie-dye techniques. Materials will be provided. This program is designed for ages 9-18.
Children will have the opportunity to flex their creativity while designing suncatchers at 4 p.m. June 23. Little ones can practice their finger dexterity as they pick up pieces of tissue paper and show off their color-matching and mixing skills. This program is aimed at children 8 and younger, but all ages are welcome. Children under 4 must have direct supervision from parents or adult guardians.
The library will host a Video Game Day at 3 p.m. June 24. Participants can join in the Maker Space for byte-sized video game fun on the Nintendo Switch. This activity is for ages 8 and up, however, please note that some games may have content suitable for ages 10 and up (rated E10+).
The UCCE Master Gardeners of Stanislaus County will give a lecture at 6 p.m. June 24 on vermicomposting (composting with worms). Turn food scraps into garden gold. Meet red wiggler worms, see a live worm hotel, and learn how to start composting at home. Perfect for families.
The library will host a kids coloring activity at 4 p.m. June 30. Kids can join for a relaxing time coloring on provided coloring pages and blank paper. This program is aimed at children ages 8 and younger, but all ages are welcome. Children under 4 must have direct supervision from parents or adult guardians.
A T(w)een Tuesday event will be held at 4 p.m. June 30. Participants can come tinker in the Turlock Library Maker Space, create stop-motion movies, try the button maker, learn to use the toybox printer and 3D pens, or build something with Make-do tools and cardboard. This program is designed for ages 9 -18.
