California Adopt-a-Pet Day
adopt a pet day

Stanislaus Animal Services Agency will be taking part in the first-ever California Adopt-a-Pet Day, a statewide initiative taking place on June 1 that will feature more than 170 California animal welfare organizations offering free adoptions at their shelters or out in their communities.

“We are thrilled to participate in the inaugural California Adopt-a-Pet Day,” said Vaughn Maurice, Executive Director of SASA. “We eagerly anticipate collaborating with our community to find loving homes for our pets and to raise awareness about the critical issue of overcrowded animal shelters. This promises to be a memorable day for everyone involved.”

The recent surge in animals arriving at shelters is largely due to a significant nationwide shortage of veterinary professionals, along with other factors like inflation and restrictions on pet-friendly housing. Many California communities lack affordable veterinary care, including crucial spay and neuter services.

California Adopt-a-Pet Day, organized by CalAnimals, aims to support California animal welfare and sheltering organizations in their mission to care for animals and their communities. This initiative is proudly supported by the San Francisco Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SF SPCA) and the ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).

By joining forces, the goal for this statewide event is to find loving homes for 2,024 shelter pets across California on June 1. Thanks to the ASPCA, participating shelters will offer free adoptions, making it easier than ever to bring home a new furry friend.

SASA currently has over 230 dogs and 150 cats available for adoption.
