For over 30 years, local dance company Backstage Academy of Dance has brought the classic Christmas tale of “The Nutcracker” to life, with dancers of all ages performing what has become a holiday tradition in Turlock. Following the final performance of this year’s production on Sunday, Backstage Director Kristi Garcia was presented with certificates of recognition from local legislators for her decades of commitment to teaching youth the art of dance. Assembly member Adam Gray, both Stanislaus and Merced county boards of supervisors and the Turlock City Council recognized Garcia.
