Downtown Turlock is a place where you can shop for new and old items, modern and antique; turn the corner at Center Street and you’ll find Poli’s Thrift shop offers these items all at low prices.
Jose Rocha, owner of Poli’s Thrift, says he is happy with the success he’s had since the store’s opening just over a year ago.
“Our prices are very reasonable,” he said. “The customers tell me they like coming here because of the fair prices and variety of items we have.”
Rocha explained that he sees his business as selling to two different kinds of customers.
“There is the customer who wants to buy furniture to fix, paint and resell, and then there are the customers who are looking for specific, particular things that we offer,” he said. “We sell to both.”
Poli’s Thrift sells large items like dressers, hutches, and kitchen tables, but also smaller items such as candles, china sets and everyday items.
“We’re an affordable solution compared to buying something new,” said Rocha. “We sell to customers who are looking for conventional things like furniture and home decor.”
The inspiration for the thrift store’s name is from Rocha’s mother, who nicknamed him “Poli” at a young age.
“It’s unique, and I like it,” he said. “Growing up my teachers always called me that, too, my friends, everyone. I thought it was a good name for the shop.”
Rocha grew up in Turlock and is happy to have a storefront located near downtown, where he says the traffic helps his business.
“They’ll see my sign out front and come check it out,” he said. “Once they see what great inventory and prices we have, it keeps them coming back.”
