The Miracle League of Stanislaus County built the area's first disability-friendly baseball field and now they are hoping the players will come.

The Miracle League of Stanislaus County was established in 2008, embarking and what has become an eight-year journey to bring a customized field to Modesto. Miracle League teams play on a custom-designed, rubberized surface field which accommodates wheelchairs and other assistive devices, giving children facing series physical and mental disabilities the opportunity to hit, run and catch, just as they envisioned in their dreams.

The league is currently accepting signups for players from all areas of Stanislaus County to play in the spring season. Opening Day will take place on April 9, beginning with a ceremony at 9 a.m., followed by the first game at 10 a.m.  All festivities will take place at the Miracle Field located near the corner of Pelandale Avenue and Tully Road, next to Big Valley Grace Church, in Modesto.

Miracle League does not just benefit children who have a disability, it also teaches community service to local youth as each child is paired with a buddy in order to assist with their unique needs.

Player registration for the spring season is available now through March 31.  Sign up a player or learn how to become a buddy by visiting miracleleaguemodesto.com or by calling (209) 524-3536.  A discounted registration fee of $40 for the spring season is available now through Feb.  29, and increases to $60 beginning in March.  Players of all ages are welcome.
