Navy serviceman William Shawn Pizarro, 19, of Newman died in a vehicle collision Saturday in Turlock.

A Navy serviceman from Newman died from injuries he sustained in a vehicle collision Saturday in Turlock.

The deceased was identified as William Shawn Pizarro, 19, of Newman. He was a graduate of Orestimba High School. According to his Facebook page, he enlisted in the Navy last year and was serving as an aviation machinist mate at Naval Air Station Lemoore.

The solo vehicle collision happened at 12:20 a.m. Saturday in the 3500 block of W. Monte Vista Avenue.

The Turlock Police Department said the vehicle had struck a fire hydrant and an irrigation box before coming to a stop. Speed is believed to have been a factor in the crash, but not drugs or alcohol, according to the police department.

The first police officers to arrive found three people in the vehicle, with the back passenger pinned inside. The Turlock Fire Department was able to extricate him from the vehicle.

Pizarro was the driver of the car. The police department said life-saving measures were taken at the scene before Pizarro was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died from the injuries he had sustained.

The additional two passengers, a 20-year-old man with life threatening injuries and an 18-year-old man with non-life-threatening injuries, were both transported to local area hospitals for medical care.

Anyone with any information about the collision is urged to contact Officer Richard Fortado at (209) 664-7399.
