Every May, Stanislaus County recognizes ‘Older Americans Month’ by honoring outstanding senior citizens from each Supervisorial District. These individuals are historically selected for their volunteer work in any of the following areas: community service, humanitarianism, leadership, political advocacy, or being a good neighbor. Seniors are nominated from the community at large, and the Senior Award Committee selects the five Senior Award Winners for their invaluable contributions to the growth and prosperity of the Stanislaus community.

This year, a noteworthy joint nomination of a Turlock married couple whose shared service stood out, was selected to represent District 2.

Martin and Nancy Qualle have volunteered their time and service with the United Samaritans Foundation for 13 years. Twice a week, the couple drives the USF food truck all around the area collecting food donations to support the needs of their local community.

“It was truly an honor to recognize Martin and Nancy Qualle as the 2026 District 2 Stanislaus County Outstanding Senior Citizens of the Year,” said Stanislaus County District 2 Supervisor Vito Chiesa. “This inspiring couple has contributed more than 10,000 volunteer hours supporting those in need by organizing and collecting food donations that have made a tremendous impact throughout our community. Their compassion, generosity, and dedication to serving others is remarkable.

“Martin and Nancy have built an incredible life together and have been happily married for 44 years. Their selflessness and commitment to helping others are a wonderful example of the kind of kindness and community spirit that should continue to be shared and celebrated.”

In the proclamation adopted by the Board of Supervisors meeting on May 12, the Qualles are recognized as “a shimmering beacon of hope, reminding us all of the profound impact that kindness and generosity can have on those around us. Their unwavering commitment to service not only alleviates the burdens of those in need but also weaves a tapestry of compassion and community spirit that enriches the very fabric of society, inspiring us to join hands and hearts in the noble pursuit of uplifting others.”

Martin and Nancy have been married for over four decades and have nurtured a family that includes two sons and two grandchildren.

The other 2026 Outstanding Senior Citizens of the Year recognized by the Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors include:
