History of business:
Turlock residents can now experience the “freaky fast” and “freaky fresh” menu of Jimmy John’s Sandwiches, as the shop recently opened a new location on Geer Road in Turlock.
Nancy Tillby and business partner John Gauthier, who owns the Little Caesar’s restaurant in town, knew that a Jimmy John’s was exactly what Turlock needed. After visiting a location in a different city, Gauthier approached his friend of over 20 years with the idea, and it was one that Tillby couldn’t pass up. She attended a Jimmy John’s orientation in Illinois where the company originated and decided to get involved.
“We loved the concept of Jimmy John’s and we moved forward into a partnership with them,” said Tillby.
According to Tillby, the sandwich shop uses meats and cheeses that are freshly sliced every day, rather than food that comes pre-sliced. The shop’s French bread is also baked fresh every morning and used within four hours. Combined with freshly prepared vegetables, the four make for a delicious combination.
The restaurant offers a variety of sandwiches, from Plain Sims, which consist of just meat, cheese and bread, to Giant Club Sandwiches, which contain heaps of meat, veggies and cheese in a variety of available combinations. The J.J. Gargantuan is another popular menu item and is described as “huge enough to feed the hungriest of humans” by the restaurant’s menu. It comes with salami, smoked ham, capicola, roast beef, turkey and provolone in a French bun.
The Jimmy John’s franchise is also famous for its freakishly fast sandwich preparation, and the restaurant’s goal is to have a sandwich ready to eat in 30 seconds or less. Along with their sandwich making, the shop’s deliveries are lighting quick as well. Sandwiches can be delivered to houses that are within a file-mile radius of the shop, and their goal is to have the sandwich delivered in 10 minutes or less.
“We try to get the sandwich out the door in less than four minutes,” said Tillby.
Customers that are unsure if their location is within the restaurant’s five-mile radius can call and ask, said Tillby, and Jimmy John’s also takes call-in orders.
“It’s a fun culture here,” said Tillby. “If you want something quickly that’s super fresh, then come here.”
