Authorities have identified the 29-year-old man who lost his life Tuesday morning in a two-vehicle collision on Golden State Boulevard.

The deceased was identified as Jay McCowan, 29, of Hilmar.

McCowan had been driving a 2014 Dodge Challenger that was stopped at a stop sign on Griffith Avenue, when for an unknown reason he pulled into the intersection of Golden State Boulevard and struck a 2012 Ford Fusion.

The Ford Fusion was being driven by Kelsi Marie Branco, 24, of Turlock. Branco was 8 months pregnant and as a result of the collision the unborn baby died during an emergency C-section.

McCowan was taken by ambulance to Emanuel Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

Branco was taken by relatives to Emanuel Medical Center prior to the arrival of emergency personnel.

It’s unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Officer Eric Zuniga at 356-6608.
