Bachint Kaur Uppal, 97, of Merced passed away at home, in the comforting arms of her beloved son. Bachint was born in India, and was married at the young age of 13 to her late husband, Swaran Uppal, whom preceded her in death in 2009.
Bachint and Swaran came to live in the U.S. briefly in 1980, only to return to Afghanistan a few years later. She and Swaran returned to the U.S. in 1995, at which time they made the Merced area their home.
Bachint was an extremely hard working and honest woman; she was very honorable and dedicated her life to her children. She was a lucky woman to have three wonderful children, whom loved and respected her.
She is survived by her children, Lachhman Singh Uppal of Turlock, Satnam Singh Uppal of Merced and Harjinder Kaur Johal of Newark; eight grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and one brother.
A funeral service will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 5 at Allen Mortuary.
