Betty Jean Ladd, age 83, passed away peacefully at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto, California on Christmas morning. “Betts” was born December 28, 1931 in Modesto, California to Elmo and Leona High, the second of five children. She was a resident of Turlock for the past 52 years.
She graduated from Modesto High School in 1949 and attended Modesto Junior College.
Betty married William L. Ladd in 1951. Their marriage lasted almost 64 years at the time of her husband’s death in September, 2015. Their marriage produced five children, Katherine, Karie, Robin, Shelly, and Scott.
She was a teacher and coach at Central Catholic High School from 1970 to 1988, excelling at coaching softball and tennis. She was inducted into the CCHS Athletic Hall of Fame after also being inducted into the Stanislaus County Softball Hall of Fame. She loved all sports.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Turlock.
She was preceded by her parents, her husband, her son, Scott (in 1976), her brother, Willis High, and her sister, Janice High.
Betty is survived by her children, Katherine (Wes) Mayers, Karie (David Johnston) Ladd, Robin (Shari) Ladd, and Shelly (Tim) Rolen, her grandchildren, Bryce (Heather) Terveen, Devin (Maribel) Ladd, Kyle (Bernadette) Ladd, and Ashlee Scott Reid, seven great grandchildren, her sisters, Joanne (Anthony) Walker and Nancy High, and additional daughter Stella (Allen) Peterson, and grandchildren Morgan, and Grant.
A recitation of the rosary will be held Sunday, January 3 at 6:00 p.m. at Turlock Funeral Home, 425 N. Soderquist Rd., in Turlock. Funeral services will follow on Monday, January 4 at 10:00 a.m. at the same location. Interment is private.
