Catherine “Cathy” Sue Tanner Atkinson suddenly passed away Tues., July 10, 2012. Cathy was born April 16, 1958 to James and Betty Tanner in Turlock, CA.

Raised in Turlock on the family farm, she attended Mitchell Community Church, Chatom Elementary School, Turlock High School class of 1976, and graduated from Modesto Junior College with an AA in Criminal Justice during that time she was also Campus Security.

She then went on to work at Ceres Police Dept as a police dispatcher. During that time she married Jim Atkinson and together they had three beautiful children.

The following years she worked for the Child Support Division in Plumas Co., Police Dispatcher in Bend, OR, and then to her most recent employer Oakdale Police Dept as a Police Dispatcher for the last 15 years.

Cathy was also an avid Oakland Raiders and Oakland A’s fan where she attended as many games as possible. In the last couple of years she was fortunate enough to attend the CMA awards and the ACM awards. Cathy loved to travel and most dear to her heart was being with her family. Cathy was an excellent cook and she loved to cook and bake for her family and co-workers.

Cathy is survived by her three children James Atkinson (Ashley) of San Diego, CA who is currently serving with the United States Coast Guard, Daniel Atkinson of Roy, Utah, Currently serving in the United States Air Force, and Amanda Schmitt RN (Mike) of O’Fallon, IL.

Also three precious granddaughters, Annabella, Elizabeth, and Amelia who was born July 12, 2012, and a grandson due shortly to James and Ashley in September.

Also survived by her siblings, sisters Cheryl (David Chesnutt), Christine Huber, Charlene Mota, Colleen (Rocky Sanderson), and brother John Tanner (Dannelle) and numerous nieces and nephews whom she truly loved.

Cathy is now reunited in heaven with her Mom, Dad, little brother James (Jamie), and many other family members.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm, Thursday, July 19, 2012 at Turlock Funeral Home, 425 N. Soderquist Rd. in Turlock.  Burial will follow at Turlock Memorial Park.
