Dorothy Erlandson, 82, of Hilmar, passed away at Covenant Village Care Center after an extended illness. Dorothy was born in Hankinson, ND, to Hans and Anna Andresen. The family moved from North Dakota to Detroit Lakes, MN, when Dorothy was a sophomore in high school. After graduating from Detroit Lakes High School and working three years as a stenographer at the Minnesota State Highway Department, she married Albert Erlandson in January of 1952 during a Minnesota blizzard. The couple lived in Hilmar, except for a five-year sojourn in Detroit Lakes in the 1970s. Over the years Dorothy was a homemaker, a teacher’s aide, a school cafeteria cook, and with her husband, owner of a coffee shop in Minnesota. They were longtime members of Hilmar Covenant Church. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Albert, in 2004, and sisters Mary Rudolph, Jean Johnson, and Betty Nordgulen. She is survived by three daughters: Linda (Owen) Youngman of Deerfield, IL, Laurel (Art) DeRooy of Hilmar, and Kathy (David) Ward of Hilmar; two siblings: Carol Hukriede of Detroit Lakes, MN, and Wayne (Cheryl) Andresen of Veradale, WA; three grandchildren: Danae (Adam) Parker, Hans (Elizabeth) DeRooy, and Alan Ward; and one great-granddaughter, Alice Parker. A Memorial Service is scheduled at Hilmar Covenant Church on Sat, Nov 2, 4:30 pm. Private interment will be at Hilmar North Cemetery.
