Emily was born April 12, 1926 in Newman, California. She graduated from Orestimba High School, where she was known as “breezy” & was a fierce field hockey player.
She began working as a teller at Bank of America and eventually became a branch manager. She worked in the banking industry for over 40 years meeting the business needs of her customers. In addition she would help them with personal issues from interpreting into Portuguese to finding medical care.
After retirement, some of her happiest times were selling melons in the fruit markets from Modesto to San Jose, with her sisters Mary and Irma. Emily was an avid gardener offering tips and advice to many and she had the ability to bring a dying plant back to life.
She enjoyed bowling, cooking and baking. Apple pie was one of her specialties. She loved life and enjoyed everything from reading and RVing to opera.  She was a member of the Altar Society for Our Lady of Miracles Church. Her greatest joy was her granddaughters. She rarely missed a volleyball, basketball, soccer, track, gymnastics, dance or school event.
She loved the hummingbirds that would come to her feeders and her doves that cooed to her daily. She is survived by her son, Larry Machado, daughter, Maryann Lucas (Buster), grandchildren Ashley Alvernaz (Colt) and Alli Lucas, Sister, Irma Mattos and brother, Joe Morais.
