Evelyn Ann Dunlop, 84, passed away peacefully in Modesto with her family by her side after an extended illness.  She was born in Turlock to early Swedish settlers, Alvin and Hildur Erickson.  Her grandfather, Peter Erickson, served as the first chairman of the board of trustees of Turlock High School when it was founded   in 1906.

Evelyn graduated from Turlock High School and for many years she was a member of the Class of ’44 “lunch bunch.”  She attended MJC and after marrying Neal Dunlop in 1951, together they raised two daughters.

In 2005 she moved to Modesto to live with her younger daughter, Jan.

Evelyn was an avid gardener, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and a former member of Monte Vista Chapel.

She is survived by her daughter, Jan (Randy) Sawyer; grandchildren, Julie Lomoljo, Jim Fountain and Kate Sawyer; and great grandchildren, Tiffanie and Kirstie Lomoljo and Jarred Fountain. 

Mrs. Dunlop was preceded in death by her husband, Neal, in 1995; her brother, Donald Erickson, who died in Italy during WW II; and her daughter, Dolly Fountain, in 2002.

Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 13 at Turlock Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 14, also at Turlock Funeral Home, with Rev. Luther Englund officiating.  Committal services will follow at Turlock Memorial Park.

 Friends are invited to return to the funeral home where refreshments will be served.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
