Gertrude Rude Furnivall
April 1905 October 2010
Furnivall

“Trudy” Furnivall, 105, of Turlock, stepped from this life into the next on Oct. 14. She was the last survivor among nine brothers and sisters born to Franklin and Katie Voorhees of Dos Palos.

She is survived by her children, Loraine Quayle of Denair, Robert Rude of Cottonwood and Luella Casey of Las Vegas, Nev.; daughter-in-law, Edith Rude of Turlock; nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and 18 great great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Cyrus Rude; by her second husband, George Furnivall; and her son, Lloyd Rude.

Trudy witnessed America’s transition from horse and buggy days to the age of computers. She was a dedicated wife and mother who moved frequently where opportunity led, with her family, creating a home from very little through the Great Depression and World War II. Her home was always open to welcome guests to fabulous meals of wild game and fish prepared by loving hands out of practically nothing at times.

Trudy was a dedicated Christian and long time member of the Church of Christ. Her radiant life was an example of a person dedicated to follow in the path of Christ. Her words were sweet, her character unflawed, and her life an enviable model to her family. Even in times when her heart was broken, she demonstrated the rare virtues of stoic humble dignity and gentle peaceful charity. The chapters of her life could fill volumes.

To those who knew her and now memorialize her, her gentle smile, her sincere and clever ways will be greatly missed. Her family aspires to follow her example and reflect her character in their own lives as a tribute to this fine woman. They pray “that God welcomes her home and leaves us with only cherished memories and the solemn pride that must be ours to be members of her family and friends.” They have expressed special thanks to Turlock Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Hospice of Emanuel.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20 at the Church of Christ, 801 N. Tully Rd. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be considered for the Church of Christ, 801 N. Tully, Turlock, CA 95380.
