Turlock native and veteran missionary John Nathan Lindskoog passed away on March 11 in Modesto.  John was born on November 9, 1926 to Florence and Enoch Lindskoog at the Lindskoog dairy on the corner of Faith Home and West Main in Turlock. 
He wanted to be a missionary from the age of 4, and after attending local schools, and serving in the Army Air Corp at the end of World War II, he attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago.  There he met and married, Carrie Alice Slack of Whitney Point, New York. 
They attended Wheaton College before receiving their missionary assignment as Bible translators with Wycliffe.  They were assigned to work among the Chachi (Cayapa) people of Northwestern Ecuador. Ten years were spent there, followed by 14 years in the capital city of Quito where John was director for Wycliffe in Ecuador. They raised five children during their 24 years in Ecuador.  In 1977 John and Carrie settled in Huntington Beach, California where they served as International Director of Communications and in the radio department for Wycliffe until their retirement in 1996.
In 2008, John returned to Ecuador with his children and several of the grandchildren for the dedication of the New Testament in the Chachi language.  The translation work was begun by the Lindskoogs in the mid 1950’s and was completed by a dedicated Canadian couple. 
 John was a lover of life!  His commitment to God and to his family was shown in many wonderful ways right up until his passing.  He loved taking trips to the foothills and exploring new areas, reading, praying for his family by name daily and watching a few favorite TV game shows. 
He was preceded in death by his wife Carrie Lindskoog. He is survived by his children David Lindskoog (Sally) of Phoenix, Mary Hayes (Phil), and Jonathan Lindskoog (Jeanne) of Turlock, Paul Lindskoog (Connie) of Portland, and Esther Harris (Lee) of Turlock.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 23 at 2:00 pm at the Turlock Covenant Church in Turlock.  All are welcome.
