Lionel Gomes, 77, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Ceres. Lionel was born in Gustine, California to Henry and Mary Gomes, one of five children. He attended Monte Vista Grammar School and graduated from Turlock High School. He was a member of FFA and showed cattle while in high school. He joined the Marines in 1955 and served as a radio operator overseas during the Korean War. Lionel loved bowling. He managed the Divine Gardens Bowling Alley at one time. He owned the Olde Towne Bar in Ripon for 20 years. For the last 10 years he has hauled livestock to the Oakdale Lionel was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings: Henry Gomes and Mary Lou “Pat” Minidew. He is survived by his three children: Steve Gomes of Hilmar, Cindy (Evie) Gomes of Shingletown, CA, and Shellie (Charlie) Wiggin of Modesto; two granddaughters: Ashley Silva and Lyndsley Mathis; a great-granddaughter Avery Silva; brother Joe (Emily) Gomes of Turlock, and sister Adeline Wynns of Stockton. 

Visitation will be at Allen Mortuary on Thursday, Jan 8th from 6 to 8 pm. Funeral Service at Allen Mortuary on Friday, Jan 9th at 10 am. Private inurnment will be held at a later date.
