On March 3, 2011, Marie Kennedy, beloved wife, sister, cherished mother, grandmother and great grandmother left this world peacefully with family surrounding her. She was reunited in heaven with her parents, William Arvil and Robbie Marie Pratt and her youngest sister, Sue Pratt Ellis.

Born in Yardell, Ark. on March 21, 1931, she was the eldest of seven children, and at 12 years of age moved to Anderson, Mo. She graduated from Anderson High School and was very involved in music as a baton twirler and majorette, a member of the singing quartet, cheerleader and school plays in the drama department. She also was a member of the church choir every Sunday.

After graduating, Marie worked for the telephone company as an operator and at the same high school as a secretary. She later married and with her infant daughter, moved to California and had three other children. She became a single parent, re-educated herself and began working for the Oakdale/Riverbank School districts, which became her career for 30 years. She was honored as secretary of one year, worked as registrar, secretary to the principal, and later to the counselors in the career center. Marie was involved in the events planned for the school and many other various areas she enjoyed to volunteer.

She retired in 1996, and was still a current member of the CSEA. She was also a member of the Emblem Club. Marie remarried in 1970 to Jerrold “Bud” Kennedy, moved to Turlock and added two more stepsons to the family. They now have over 40 members and still counting. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary last July.

Her passions were her family, cooking, gardening, and travel. She and Bud enjoyed taking their fifth wheel annually to Klamath into Oregon and Arizona for extended vacations.

Marie is survived by her loving husband, Jerrold “Bud” Kennedy; her brothers, William Junior Pratt (Janice) and Bill Pratt (Sandy); her sisters, Fern Cooper (Mark), Bertha Bush (James) and Glenna Lassiter, who all live in Missouri; her children, Vicki Lozano (Dan) of Modesto, Michael McCoy (Sheri) of Mesa, Ariz., Gale Sawyer (Ron) of Manteca, Ronald McCoy of Crows Landing; and her stepsons, Jeffrey Kennedy (Debbie) of Modesto and Brian Kennedy (Kathy) of Turlock. Marie also is survived by 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She will forever be loved and remembered for her smile she would give you no matter what her day would bring.

Visitation will be held from noon to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 10 at Turlock Funeral Home, 425 North Soderquist Rd., Turlock. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday March 11, also at Turlock Funeral Home, with immediate burial after the services at Turlock Memorial Park.

Remembrances can be made in her honor to Community Hospice Foundation, 4368 Spyres Way, Modesto, CA 95350.
