Marilyn Rae Peterson
Jan. 1927 Sept. 2015

Marilyn Rae Peterson, a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, after a long illness.

Marilyn was born in Turlock, CA to Ernest and Kathryn Hughes in the winter of 1927.  She and her siblings were raised in Turlock where Marilyn was an usherette at the Fox Theatre on Main Street.  She met her future husband Larry Peterson at the theatre and after marrying the love of her life in 1948, Marilyn and Larry settled in Hilmar where they raised their boys Randy, Michael and Marc.

In the early days Marilyn would keep the books for the family dairy and helped harvest raisins. Throughout the years Marilyn was a steadfast member of Hilmar Covenant Church.  During Smorgasbord each year she would faithfully make tomato aspic to go along with all the other authentic Swedish dishes.   Marilyn was a very special woman who loved to do hard crossword puzzles, go shopping, watch the Turner Classic Movie Channel and travel to the theatre in San Francisco and Sacramento.  She also enjoyed the monthly luncheons with the Turlock High Class of 1944.  As her grandchildren grew and started school, Marilyn was the family chauffer when they were sick at school and needed to be picked up.

Marilyn’s memory brings smiles to the faces of her family and she will be profoundly missed until they meet again.  The family wants to thank Dr. Lew Barker, Marie Macedo and Laura Fraga (caregivers) and Covenant Care Hospice for all their love and care of their cherished mother Marilyn.

Marilyn is survived by her children Randy (Diane) Peterson, Michael (Pam) Peterson and Marc Peterson; grandchildren Tricia (Jeff), Tracy (Mark), Nick (Jenni), Craig (Shelbi) and Katie (Andrew); five great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law Wes and Phyllis Peterson and many close nieces and nephews whether related by blood or kindred spirit.  Marilyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband Larry Peterson.

A Graveside service will be held at 9:30 am this Friday, Oct. 2, 2015 at North Hilmar Cemetery with a Memorial Service following at Hilmar Covenant Church at 11:30 am.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Marilyn’s name to Hilmar Covenant Church P.O. Box 340 Hilmar, CA 95324 or Covenant Care Hospice 1850 Colorado Ave Turlock, Ca 95382.  Please share your memories at
